Chapter 3:

- Make sure that the sentence has both a subject and a working verb.

- If you can remove a phrase from the sentence, and the sentence still makes sense, the phrase is likely to be a middleman or warmup.

- Even though they represent groups, collective nouns are almost always considered singular.

- When you look for the subject, do not forget to look after the verb: the subject and the verb could be inverted.

- Confusing subjects are more often singular than plural. Therefore, they usually require singular verb forms.
